Improve Your Mind Improve Your Scoring Percentage

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Welcome back to day 2 of the Dynamic Scores Series, where in the the next 30 plus days I am going to talk about  becoming a better scorer on the basketball court.

First and foremost improving the way you think about the way you play ball will automatically increase your ability to score.

You will here many basketball experts talk about players having the scores mentality; this mentality is what you need to develop in order to take your point totals to the next level.

Now scoring does not necessarily mean shooting the ball more times in a given game even though in many situations your teammates will expect you to shoot the ball instead of pass.

You always want to try and score in the most efficient way possible.

One of my main problems growing up was worring about what everyone else thought about the way I played which was my biggest issue.  I never played to my full potential because of this one crutch.

I always viewed myself in comparison to someone else which caused me to doubt my own individual skills.

I tell you now to never ever ever doubt your individual skills.  You may come up short based on how fine tuned your game is right now but  never sale your current skill set short.

Be confident in your current skill set and do not let anyone tell you otherwise.  Own your game and don’t let outside influences compromise your integrity as a player.

Learn to play in the moment.

Check out the book “The Power of Now” by Eckart Tolle`.  He gives you instructions on how to get out of the past and stop worring about the future and live in the present moment.

The present moment is critical in obtaining the scores mentality.  Every play is diffent from the last.  Shooters get out of slumps by forgetting about the past.  Shooters stay hot by focusing on the present moment.

Hitting the big shot consistantly over time gets easier when all of a sudden it is not the big shot.  In your mind the shot is now just another shot which just happen to be at the end of the game.

For many this will be a hard technique to master because we have been brought up in a time where the ego is strong.  The key is to learn to be self aware.

That’s it for today, think about what I have written and be sure to observe some of the top scores in the NBA and NCAA and test my theories.  I know what I am talking about.

Please leave your comments and let me know what you think and what you what to discuss in future post.  And always practice makes (near) perfect.

Starting today 01 NOV 2009 I am starting a series on how to become a more dynamic scorer on the basketball court.

The main theme of the this blog was focused on Jacob Hiller’s Jump Manual which based on experience I still promote it 100% over other programs out on the market. Sign up for my email newsletter and get a preview of the Jump program.

Also stay locked into my new dynamic scorer’s series as I walk you through a step by step method on how to improve every aspect of your offensive game.

Defense will play a small part but for now my entire focus is to allow you to learn from my 24 years of basketball experience.

The 2009 – 2010 Basketball season is in full swing and basketball lovers are not only watching but playing as well. Fall and Winter basketball leagues will be full of competition and you want to make sure your game is on point to secure your bragging rights.

Be sure to post your question or comments on what topics you would like me to cover.
